On march 8,1982, the Municipal Government of catarman, Northern Samar, under the administration of municipal mayor Justiniano M. Singzon and vice mayor Eduardo dela Cruz , adopt a resolution no. 82-11-1 “A Resolution Certifying to the Correctness of the Barangay listings as they exist within the municipality of Catarman, Northern Samar”

Our barangay was created under P.D No.86 and named after a national flower called SAMPAGUITA.

The named BARANGAY SAMPAGUITA was chosen by the previous barangay officials.

Barangay sampaguita is located within the poblacion of catarman. And bounded by Brgy. J.A. santos on the north; Brgy. Mabolo on the south; catarman river on on the east; and brgy. Lapu-lapu on the west.

Barangay sampaguita has a total area of 1.33 hectares for residential, 0.8 hectares for commercial. Some of the commercial establishment were found in thid barangay like; Luisa Ang Ley’s Store, NORSAM Merchandising, Tropical Bakery, Custorio’s Inn. For night happenings; KTV D CO Videoke Bar, bistro samako and kirara videoke bar are also found in this barangay.

For the infrastructure projects from Barangay Fund, we have Brgy. Hall, day care center, brgy. Street lighting (100% accomplishment) while the Barangay Health Center is still on going.

Barangay sampaguita is situated just along the catarman river. It is an urbanized community where commercial establishment are very visible and cater job opportunities among its residents.

The barangay council were threatened since almost 15 percent of the household were located near the river banks. Hence, through the collaborative effort of the barangay officials, the national government granted a concrete dike to protect the concerned citizens.

Being situated along the banks of catarman river , barangay sampaguita is a low level area with the constant threat of flooding. Every time rain pours heavily, some of the roads were impassable to heavier trucks. This piece of land was threated by soil erosion due to massive uneven flows of water and it gets narrower by meter of two every year.

However, the active punong barangay Hon. Marilou D. Marino with her ever supportive barangay kagawad members initiated some reform measure in order to hasten the barangay development.
