Barangay Trangue was once a setio of barangay Quezon in the Municipality of Catarman. At that time it was called Setio Ligoy because the people are uncooperative. They do not participate actively to all kinds of activities and celebration in their mother barangay.

 

Years passed the community population has grown bigger and bigger. A very generous man named Ricardo Loberiano donated one and one half (1 ½) hectares of land to be the barangay.

 

In 1961, due to rapid growth of the population Setio Ligoy required its autonomy as an independent barangay thru Mr. Alfredo Loberiano who was then the first barangay captain through the help of the late Mayor Eusebio Moore.

 

Barangay Captain Alfredo Loberiano holds the office for 15 years. It was fallowed by Mr. Dioscoro Flamingo and at present barangay captain Diolito Loberiano.

 

Barangay Trangue is located on a hilly terrain west of Brgy. Quezon. It is more than 25 kilometer South West from catarman proper. Barangay Trangue has a total land area of 1 and ½  hectares donated by Ricardo Loberiano. One (1) hectare is of the barangay site and one half (½ ) is for the school site.

 

Trangue was established as barangay in 1965. The first public school teacher was Ernesto Table who at the time enrolled 30 pupil as grade 1. The first barangay captain was Alfredo Loberiano who initiated the construction of school building. During that time only a handful resident constructed house in Trangue as most people live nearby in their farm. The fiest was on September 17, 1967 through the initiative of the public school teacher and the barangay captain. Since then many farmers constructed house in the barangay proper to be near in school, so that their children would not be late in grade school.

 

Barangay Trangue located 23 kms. From Poblacion of catarman. It is bounded in the North by Brgy. San Pascual, South by Brgy. Mabini, East Bry. Quezon, West Brgy. E.Duran. it can be reached by foot trail, by hiking 14 kms. From the provincial road. However, it is seldom be reached by means of banca by crossing Paticua River.

 

The barangay Trangue was formerly a Sitio of barangay Quezon a barrio which is estimated by barrio folks 2 kilometers from the serial barangay. It was turned into barrio/barangay during the year 1960 under the helped of a certain Ricardo Loberiano a resident of barangay Trangue. The first barangay captain was Mr. Alfredo Loberiano  during the term of Justianiano Singzon as municipal Mayor of Catarman, Northern Samar. The total land area of the barangay was 1,040 hectares with 840 hectares of agricultural land, 1.0 hectares intended for school.

Barangay Trangue is rich in coconut products, fruit, root crops and vegetable. The people are disciplined, peace loving, congenial and accommodating to visitors. They usually entertain  and attend to their needs.

 

The barangay programs and service are being delivered by the barangay officials headed by the Punong Barangay   Hon. Margie L. Cardenas with her ever supported barangay kagawad members.

 

The barangay Public Safety officers working on 24/7 duty are strengthened with the support group such as Purok leaders and tanods. It is created to oversee the illegal elements, violation and crime incidence which may occur within the vicinity. It is manned by volunteer tanods who keep on guard most especially at night time when criminal element are most active. As a result a sigh of relief are felt that barangay resident can have peace of mind
